Online Dating
Did you know that these days most single parents meet their life partner online? You may or may not want to re-marry, but everyone wants to be with someone special, right? I'm sure you've heard plenty of stories about people meeting online, and I'm here to tell you it's worth a try. (It's the best way to at least meet single parents like yourself to commiserate with.) I learned what to do, and what not to do through simple trail-and-error. After 6 years of dating, I met my ultimate match...you guessed it, online. It can work for you, too. No, it doesn't have to take that long. Think of this as your cliff notes guide to online dating; no trail-and-error for you.
Give it a Try
Meeting new people can be a challenge for a single parent. Where do single parents meet anyway? You work so hard to create a routine so you can get everything done, and just squeezing in time to meet new people is sometimes difficult. If you're anything like me, when you see a good looking guy in the supermarket, you're too shy to walk up to him and say hi. What are you supposed to say? What if he's married? Sure, you can do the ring check, but a lot of married guys don't wear their rings all the time. What's a girl to do?Enter online dating. I know what you're thinking: "but, that's weird, right?" Or- "Only the losers who can't get dates in real life go online to meet someone. They must be hiding something." Not so- there are plenty of normal guys looking for normal girls like you, right this very minute. Don't knock it til you try it. Think about it; you can put the kids to bed, and look for interesting people to meet whenever it works for you. Heaven knows; the biggest thing a single parent lacks is time. Wait, no- money. Ok, maybe both- but anyway, online dating is something you can do in the little bits of time you get to yourself. Another advantage to online dating is that you get a sneak peak at a guy before you actually go out with him. You don't really get this advantage when you meet him at a club or walking your dog in the park. This makes it easier to rule out certain things and people that you know are a deal-breaker for you. Not sure what you're looking for? Reading lots of profiles and hearing what others want in a relationship can also help you decide what you want.
Use Honey to Attract the...uh, Flies
Online dating is an entirely different culture in and of itself. While dating sites are no longer a new concept, depending on how long you were married, it may be totally new to you. Getting to know someone before you even lay eyes on them in person can be an advantage, but how do you get started? What if you don't like talking about yourself, or don't know what to say? You'll have to learn how to promote yourself. Does that sound like you're advertising for yourself? Well, you are. You are now your biggest cheerleader. You are in charge of showing everyone what's so great about you. Once you start working on this, you'll be surprised how many great things there really are about you, and it does get easier.
